Frequently asked questions
Platforms, languages, offline privacy, plans, exports and details — the short version.
Platform and languages
- Which operating systems does Shotera support?
- Shotera currently supports Windows desktop with a small, fast-launching installer that works offline — download and start right away. macOS, Linux, and more platforms are on the roadmap.
- Which interface languages does Shotera support?
- Shotera now supports Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Polish, and Swedish. Together with English and Simplified Chinese, Shotera supports 15 interface languages.
Offline and privacy
- Do OCR and AI cutout need an internet connection?
- No. OCR text recognition, AI cutout, and AI eraser all run entirely offline on your device — nothing is uploaded, keeping your data private. Image translation uses cloud APIs and complies with the respective cloud providers' privacy policies.
- Can I use Shotera with no connection at all?
- Yes. Capturing, annotating, recording, OCR, cutout, the eraser, and the image viewer all work offline, and nothing you capture leaves your PC. Image translation is the one feature that calls a cloud API, so it needs a connection.
Plans, exports and performance
- Is Shotera free?
- Core capture, annotation, and pinning are free forever. If all you need is everyday capture and annotation, Shotera Lite is there as a smaller build — it leaves out screen recording and AI. Recording, AI cutout, AI eraser, and image translation come with Shotera Standard — see the edition comparison for details.
- What resolutions and frame rates can recordings use?
- Recording quality runs from 720p up through 1080p, 2K and 4K, at 30 fps or 60 fps — with no time limit. Export to MP4, or to a GIF whose frame rate you can dial down to keep the file small.
- Can recordings be exported as GIF?
- Yes. Export any recording to MP4 — from 720p up to 4K, at 30 or 60 fps — or to a compact GIF for docs, chat, and bug reports. Neither option limits how long you record.
- Will it slow down my computer?
- No. Shotera is built to stay light — minimal memory and instant startup, unnoticeable even running in the background.
Details and customization
- Does Shotera have a dark mode?
- Yes. Settings → General → Interface theme switches between Follow system, Light and Dark; Follow system tracks the Windows light/dark setting automatically.
- Does it work with multiple monitors and hi-res screens?
- Yes. Multiple monitors are treated as one continuous desktop, so a secondary screen placed to the left of the main one still selects correctly — and the UI and captures stay sharp on high-DPI displays.
- Can I change the keyboard shortcuts?
- Yes. Capture, custom capture, pin and Presentation Mode can all be rebound under Settings → Hotkeys; if another app already owns a key, Shotera tells you, and you can restore every default in one click.
- How do I update to a new version?
- Shotera updates itself: it checks at startup by default, can download and install in the background, or you can check manually under Settings → Updates. The Microsoft Store edition stays current through the Store.
